PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY
All Theatre Arts Students will have the opportunity to perform in our End-of-Year showcase with our Term-Time Musical Theatre students. Most routines will have a focus on ensemble work with specific solos available (via an audition in class time). At times, we have space for students to showcase their solo work by presenting a song that they have been working on in their own time. We have offered solists the opportunity to showcase their gifts and skills within the showcase line-up.
Katrina has been a qualified Primary School Teacher since 2006, driven by her passion for education and her commitment to empowering young people to become lifelong learners. Over the past 19 years, she has cultivated Perth Youth Theatre into a vibrant performing arts program for young artists of all ages and abilities.
Her role as the artistic director for Platinum Entertainment has granted her extensive industry experience, allowing her to mentor many graduates from performing arts schools, helping them refine their talents and skills.
During her tenure at Bold Park Community School (2006 - 2017), she developed a profound understanding of holistic education, seeing the world through a child’s perspective. Here, she collaborated with founding principal, Gillian McAuliffe to establish a groundbreaking arts program that continues to thrive today, scaffolding children to reach their full potential both on and off the stage and throughout other areas of the curriculum.
As a mother of two teenagers, Max (16) and Zoe (14), she takes pride in her family's long-standing involvement in a transformative school environment for 18 years.
“Katrina is a deeply experienced educator whose commitment to the arts – and to children who thrive on expressing themselves through the arts – is unquestionable.
Her holistic approach to teaching children exceptional performance skills means that, under her guidance, they not only learn how to carry themselves on stage — but also how to thrive off stage.
My children have learned so many powerful life skills through participating in many theatre school weeks with Katrina, including how to persevere through times of personal uncertainty to experience new levels of confidence, how to bounce back from disappointment and embrace unexpected opportunities, and how vital it is to surround themselves with those who share their passions.
Often, it has felt like my kids have completed their own hero’s journey in just 5 days at theatre school. There aren’t many spaces where children can experience that and have an extreme amount of fun at the same time!”
Trial classes: We do not offer these for various reasons:
New performers in an established group can change the dynamic of the class
In our experience a lot can be gained from more than one class:
Relationships can grow between fellow class mates and educators
Resilience can be developed over a period of time
Team-work is fostered with the same group of people from week week
In the words of Maggie Dent - it's important to 'nurture a spark'. We encourage families to make a commitment for one term at a time.
This encourages resilience | work-ethic | passion | drive | grit | empathy | dedication | relationship
Thank you for your understanding:)
